The Adoption Process
1.
Contact is made with Christian Adoption Services to request services (at ANY point during your pregnancy or afterwards). An appointment is made, and an Adoption Coordinator will meet with you immediately at any location you are comfortable with. Christian Adoption Services is licensed in North and South Carolina with locations across both states.
2.
Initial meeting occurs with you. Prenatal care is arranged if you are not already receiving care (Medicaid is applied for if needed). Referrals are made for other services such as housing/maternity home care, food and maternity clothing if needed. You also decide what level of openness you are comfortable with: closed (you don’t have updates or see the baby), semi-open (you receive ongoing pictures and letters about the baby through our office) or fully open (you have the contact information for the adoptive family and direct contact and visits occur).
3.
Each state has it's own laws regarding when a biological/legal father can sign paperwork relinquishing his rights for the purpose of adoption and we welcome his cooperation. However, it may be possible to move forward with an adoption plan if the father is not cooperating or is unknown. In some states, the expectant mother is not required to name the father. Your individual caseworker will hear your circumstances and provide you information that is applicable to your situation and according to the law in your state.
4.
You select an adoptive family for your child at about 7 months into the pregnancy. This selection is made by looking at profile albums created by the adoptive family. All of our families waiting to adopt can be found here as well. You can choose to meet the family you select if desired. (You can still select the adoptive family and meet them even if you have already delivered.)
5.
A personalized hospital plan is developed with you such as who you want at the hospital? Do you want to spend time with the baby? Name the baby? Buy a special outfit for the baby? Do you want the baby to go home with the adoptive family directly from the hospital?
6.
You deliver the child and your Adoption Coordinator from Christian Adoption Services visits you in the hospital to be supportive. Legal paperwork is signed after the child is born (typically the following day).
7.
Ongoing support (retreats, private Facebook page with other birth mothers) is offered to you as long as needed. (Check out images of past retreats below.)
